John Mayer, Rain or Shine

The heavy rain last night couldn’t keep the crowds away from John Mayer’s concert last night at Merriweather Post Pavilion. My only real beef: Merriweather sucks. Big time. One would think, and rightfully expect, that if you paid the extra money to get seats inside (not on the lawn), you’d be safe from the rain. Not last night. We were sitting on the right side, and as soon as the clouds let loose, so did the tarp-like roof we were under. No big surprise since it had holes all over it. So, I may think twice before going back to Merriweather.

But enough about the crappy venue . . . John Mayer was spot on as usual. He sang a cover of Tom Petty’s Free Falling, which was great. My other faves: Say, Vultures, and Gravity. Although he really tore the house down (and his shirt off) when he fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing in a rock band. During the encore, the band did a cover of Van Halen’s Panama. It was great, as Mayer was bouncing all over the stage doing rock star antics.

Bottom line: Out of the three concerts I’ve been to, this wasn’t my favorite. But it was still a great show; I’d watch him rain or shine!!

Last night’s set list and encore consisted of:

Set List

  • Vultures
  • Waiting on the World to Change
  • I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)
  • Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
  • Bigger Than My Body
  • Crossroads
  • Mercy
  • No Such Thing into Why Georgia
  • Free Falling
  • Belief
  • Say

Encore

  • Who Did You Think I Was
  • Panama
  • Gravity

Nothing can beat jamming with N’SYNC! I’m glad John Mayer didn’t disappoint. :)
