Dive In

This semester has felt like we’ve dug a big hole into the world of social media. We’re only halfway through, but I feel as if there is so much to explore - have we really only scratched the surface? The area of social networking seems to be the biggest place out there to get lost in. Sites such as BookMooch, Classical Lounge, and dodgeball all seem to be so specific in their target that I wonder how big a following each site can have.Rosiethethird expressed her apprehension about some of these sites, namely Twitter. But her thoughts got me thinking that yes, these sites are new now, but in a year from now, they could be the new Facebook or Myspace.

So, the best thing I can think to do is dive right in. I’m already on the major sites (Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn), but there is so much more to explore. To start with, I’m going to dive in to Kiva, a site that connects you to entrepreneurs in third world countries, empowering them to start businesses and lift themselves out of poverty. I figure if I do dive deeper into social networking, I might as well be able to help someone while I do it.
